Sauna Care and Maintenance Guide

A little regular care keeps your sauna looking and performing its best for years, and none of it is complicated. A few minutes after each session and the occasional check of the basics is all it takes. Here's exactly what we recommend, whether you've got a RadiantZen, GlowZen, or CedarZen.

During Every Session

Use a towel on the seat and a towel on the floor. It's an easy habit that keeps sweat off the timber, and the towel is simple to wash afterwards.

After Every Session

If the timber feels sweaty or damp, wipe down the interior with a dry towel. Leave the door open afterwards so the cabin can air out, and keep it in a dry, well-ventilated space between uses — that's the best way to protect the wood over time.

Caring For The Timber

Wipe up any spills promptly rather than letting water pool on a panel. Skip soap, detergent, or chemical cleaners directly on the timber — a damp cloth or a bi-carb soda paste handles stubborn stains well. Beyond that, the wood doesn't need any special internal treatment; regular cleaning when it's dirty is enough. If you'd like to stain or treat the external timber, you're welcome to, but it isn't necessary for an indoor unit.

Installed Outdoors?

If your sauna lives outside, a bit of extra protection goes a long way. For our 2-person models (RadiantZen Premium, RadiantZen Standard, GlowZen) we sell a $150 protective cover that guards the exterior timber against UV, rain, and dust — a better long-term option than relying on staining or treating alone. Not yet available for CedarZen. For guidance on choosing and preparing a spot for your sauna, see our guide on Where Can Your Sauna Go.

Electrical & Heater Care

Check the power cord and supply regularly for any damage — if anything looks unsafe, stop using the sauna and contact us. Keep water and wet cloths away from the heater panels and control panel.

The Oxygen Ioniser

The oxygen ioniser turns on and off independently of the rest of the sauna — it won't switch off automatically when you turn the sauna off. Make sure you switch it off yourself once your session is done.
